Bone marrow registration

Posted by dutran in Untagged

dutran

Hi everyone,

A fellow Gaginang wanted to bring attention to the need for more Asian Americans to register to be a bone marrow transplant donor, helping to hopefully save many lives of those with leukemia.  This is his message and I hope you will register if you qualify to be one.  I tried but unfortunately looking at the requirements, I could not listed as a donor.

------------------------------------

Dear Gaginang,

Janet Liang, a recent UCLA graduate, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia on August 24, 2009. As of now, she has only two more months to find a matching bone marrow transplant donor before it's too late. Finding a match is most likely found within the same ethnic group. Unfortunately, more than 50% of all Asian Americans who are stricken with leukemia are left to suffer and die because they cannot find a matching donor in time. That’s because only 7% of all Asian Americans are on the National Registry.

The best way you can help out is to register yourself as a bone marrow donor. You can do this at one of your local bone marrow/stem cell donor drives. It’s really easy and painless—just a swab of your cheek with a q-tip. If you can't make it to one of the scheduled drives, you can also register on marrow.org with the promo code: teamjanet to get a free mail-in kit. A mail-kit takes about two weeks to process, but registering at your local drive is immediate and preferable.

Once you are registered, please spread the word to all of your Asian friends (or anyone who can help) by forwarding them this information, passing out flyers, hosting your own drive, or helping in whatever means possible. It’s very easy to host a drive. You can host one at your church, college, company, or at any large gathering of people. There will be a whole support network of volunteers and recruiters to help you get set up in your area. Lets be creative.

Still confused? Instructions on how to help and more information about Janet can be found in the following links below.

Thank you so much for your attention. Janet has been such a huge inspiration for the Asian-American community of leukemia patients. Lets take the time to pray for Janet, her family, and her friends. Keep her in your thoughts. Your efforts, no matter how big or small, can inspire hope in Janet and many others who are currently in pain and suffering.

Sincerely,

Tim

MyGGN has been taken out of the site so that the focus can be on the forums.  To help with that, there is a new section on the GGN front page that will show the 6 latest posts.  I hope you like the new style that was chosen for the forum as well.  Please leave some comments.  The GGN website team is striving to improve the website.  If you have any suggestions or comments, please email IT@gaginang.org.

Thank you all for your patience.

Removing MyGGN

Posted by dutran in website , updates

Hi fellow members,

My IT team and I are making changes to the website.  As you can see, chat has been added and content is being reorganized.  There will be more to come as we work to streamline the content and make interaction with other members simpler.

One idea is to remove MyGGN and rely on the forums and chat for the GGN member interactions.  The removal date is going to be this Sunday, April 25th.  I would like some input from members on this plan.

Dictionary search updated

Posted by dutran in Untagged

I have been able to integrate a dictionary search into the current website.  Prior to the change, a word search would take you to the old GGN 3.0 website.  Now it stays within the new site instead.  I also updated the search to allow for English, PengIm, and Chinese character searches.

I will be updating the dictionary database soon.
